Apple iPhone 6 runs Windows 98

A hacker in China managed to get Windows 98 running on an Apple iPhone 6

Apple’s iPhone is known to have one of the best securities in its operating system. What we mean is that you cannot hack easily to get into the system ROM, and if done, you can make changes to the present operating system via jailbreak. However, installing another operating system is almost unthinkable.

A Chinese hacker did just that. He has managed to install Microsoft Windows 98 on an Apple iPhone 6 Plus.

According to an article on beta News, on Chinese forum Feng, a developer has managed to install Windows 98 on the iPhone, albeit it is not practical to run an ancient operating system on a new hardware.

The Windows 98 operating system was installed on the iPhone using iDOS emulator.

Though the idea is novel, the operating system is practically useless since it cannot be used for any purpose.

Who knows what the future holds. Maybe one day, not to long from now, we shall see common smartphone hardware on sale and the customer would have a choice of his or her own operating system installed on it. Since most smartphone hardware use a common chipset under the hood, it seems pretty practical for this to happen. For now, Apple uses A8 chipsets, but as they did to the desktop platform by adapting to Intel processors, they could, in future, adopt Snapdragon for the future phones.

If this happens, developers would be extremely happy to test and use different operating system platforms on the same handset, making app development easier and faster.
