Telangana rejects NTR terminal, urges Centre to consult state govt

Assembly passes resolution, wants Centre to maintain status quo

Hyderabad: The Telangana Legislative Assembly on Friday adopted a resolution asking the Centre to maintain status quo on the naming of terminals in the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here.

Asserting that the resolution was not confrontational, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao termed the decision “unnatural” and said the Centre should consult the state government before changing names.

As Telugu Desam Party legislators opposed the resolution, differences between allies TD and the BJP also emerged on the issue with the latter opining that the airport should be named after a leader from Telangana.

The resolution should be considered by the Centre, but is not binding on it. The Council also passed a similar resolution seeking continuation of status quo on naming of the airport.
