Obama has accepted Modi's invitation to be chief guest for Repuclic Day

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party said here on Saturday that the way Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited U.S. President Barack Obama for the 26th January celebration is a diplomatic breakthrough as far the Indo- U.S. ties are concerned.

‘The way Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited U.S. President Obama to come for the 26th January celebration and Barack Obama has accepted the invitation is a diplomatic breakthrough as far the Indo- U.S. ties are concerned’, said BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra .

"India and America are the two most vibrant democracies of the world. And such a scenario, when they come together to celebrate democracy, it is something that sends strong message not only in India but across the globe," he added.

He said it points to the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a reputation that is international and something that I believe is historic in the way he has approached the international leaders.

U.S. President Obama was invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the Republic Day celebration, which marks the enactment of India's constitution on January 26, 1950.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's invitation was accepted by the U.S. President, Barack Obama, to be the chief guest at Republic Day celebrations in January next year.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin said that a confirmation was received through diplomatic channel about Obama's visit to the country.

The White House said Obama will meet with Prime Minister Modi and other Indian officials to strengthen and expand the US-India relationship.
