The curious case of Rampal: Pregnancy kit, petrol bombs found in ashram

Hisar: During the search operation of Swami Rampal’s ashram after his arrest, Haryana police discovered a pregnancy-testing kit along with petrol bombs and huge cache of arms and ammunition.

Speaking to reporters, Inspector General of Haryana police, Anil Kumar Rao said, "During a police search of the ashram, a pregnancy-testing kit was found in Baba's personal room. Three .32 bore revolvers, 19 air guns, two .12 bore rifles, two .315 bore rifles, chilly grenades and cartridges were also found in the ashram at a press conference here.”

"Around 865 people from Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan were arrested, and we are investigating if there is any Naxal among them. We have sought a profile of those who trained in crude bomb making from Chhattisgarh police," he added.

The ‘self styled godman’ has been booked in 35 new cases, which include murder, rioting and illegal confinement, according to reports. He has been shifted to a jail in Hisar in Haryana.

The Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday remanded self-styled “godman” Rampal in judicial custody till November 28. Rampal was arrested from his Satlok ashram in Barwala, in Haryana’s Hisar district, on Wednesday night after a long police operation. The police also slapped charges of murder and violence over the deaths of six people (four women in his ashram and one woman and an infant who died in hospital) during the stand-off that ended Wednesday night.
