Polavaram project to be completed in 4 years: Chandrababu Naidu

The right canal of this project is interlinked with river Krishna

New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said on Friday that his government intends to complete the Polavaram Multi-Purpose Irrigation Project within the next four years.

Addressing Jal Manthan, a national conference on the issue of optimal use of water resources here, he said that the Centre had announced Polavaram as a national project during the bifurcation of the state and over 50 per cent of the works pertaining to canals had been completed.

"The state government intends to complete this project within four years," Naidu said.

The right canal of this project is interlinked with river Krishna and about 70 TMC feet of water would be drawn to the river through water grafting. The government contemplates to complete this work within eight months, he said.

Issues of drought in Rayalaseema area would be addressed by interlinking Krishna-Godavari Rivers, he added.

Later, Naidu held meetings with several Union ministers, including Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
