CB-CID files 40 page charge sheet in Villupuram court
Chennai: The CB-CID has completed the probe into the massive Aavin milk adulteration operation. It has filed a 40-page charge sheet in a Villupuram court against 23 persons, including the arrested AIAMDK man N Vaidynathan and Aavin’s quality control manager in Chennai along with two firms run by the accused, according to CB-CID officials here. The CB-CID, during the probe, found that only one person from Aavin was involved in one of the biggest rip-offs reported in the history of Aavin.
The case was connected to the siphoning off of thousands of litres of Aavin milk on a daily basis during transporting from other districts to the Chennai facility in milk tankers belonging to firms run by Vaidynaanthan and his wife Revathi. The 40-page charge sheet was filed by CB-CID DSP Veliyappan at the chief judicial magistrate court, a CB-CID official said.
Except Abdul Rahim, quality control manager of Aavin in Chennai all other accused linked to the milk transport firm run by Vaidyanathan and receivers of the stolen milk. Others are drivers of tankers and small vehicles, which transported the milk in cans after taking it from the tanker. The gangs had also replaced the stolen milk with water after parking the tankers near farm wells. The stolen milk was later sold to private milk and milk product dealers.
The CB-CID had arrested as many as 23 persons in connection with the case. The Villupuram police first detected the case in August. The case was later handed over to the CB-CID for a detailed probe. The probe found that Vaidyanathan, believed to be a close aide to the former minister for dairy development, was the mastermind behind the operation.
