Mumbai: Individual no. 3, a senior player who has been in Team India for some years and named in the Justice Mukul Mudgal committee report is “safe” as far as his involvement in having a woman in his hotel room in Sri Lanka during the 2010 Asia Cup is concerned, said sources.
According to highly placed sources, the woman, believed to be an executive of the management company that looks after other players as well, stayed in the room alone till 4 am.
“The player in question (Individual no. 3) went and slept in other player’s room,” a source close to the Mudgal panel said.
It could not be confirmed whether the Mudgal panel members met the girl after seeking an appointment. However, her parents are believed to have met at least a few members of the original Mudgal panel and expressed their daughter’s innocence.
“The girl wanted to leave from Dambulla for Colombo on the night of the incident but was persuaded by the players to stay back and arrangement was made for her,” the source added.
Interestingly, the girl is likely to marry another member of the present India squad and if everything goes according to the plan, their wedding will take place after next year’s World Cup.
