Tiger who killed a woman in Chikkamagaluru released at Bhimghad sanctuary

Bengaluru: The tiger that had killed a woman in Chikkamagaluru district recently was finally released into the Bhimghad Wildlife Sanctuary in Belgaum District on Wednesday afternoon.

The villagers stopped the vehicles of forest officials, while they were approaching the release site, and they were held up for more than four hours. The local political leaders, backed by MLA Aravind Patil, reportedly to took possession of the keys of the vehicles and demanded that the tiger be released in Talewadi area of Khanapur.

Earlier forest department had decided to release the tiger in Anashi-Dandeli Tiger Reserve, but due to opposition from the locals the area of release of changed in the last minute. Mr Vinay Luthra, Chief Wildlife Warden said that the tigress was 3-4 years old and would form her own territory.

“She has been radio-collared and a constant watch will be kept on her in the coming days. In case the tiger wanders close to human habitations we shall remove her from the area,” , adding that if the protests continue legal action will be taken.
