Strike by junior doctors of Telangana is illegal says Hyderabad High Court

Bench was delivering its final verdict on a PIL seeking to declare the strike as illegal

Hyderabad: A division bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar of the Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday declared the strike of the Junior Doctors of Telangana state as illegal. The bench was delivering its final verdict on a PIL by Ravikiran Swamy seeking to declare the strike as illegal.

Pointing out that doctors, being life savers cannot resort to any form of strikes, the bench asked the junior doctors to resume their duty within 48 hours and directed the Telangana State government not to resort to any penal action against them keeping in view their future.

Referring to the arguments of the state government that it cannot take a decision on the demand pertaining to rural service, the bench directed the government to find a solution to the other legitimate demands of the junior doctors.

Maintaining that the court does acknowledge the services of the medical profession as a noble service, the bench said that the government is at liberty to take action against the striking doctors if they fail to resume duty strictly in accordance with law.
