14 more kids critical at Salem Government Hospital

98 newborns were being treated at the neo-natal care unit

Dharmapuri-Salem: As protests broke out in Dharmapuri over the death of 13 newborns in the last 15 days in the Dharmapuri GH, reports that 18 infants are battling for their lives emerged from the neighbouring Salem government hospital.

According to the Salem Mohan Kumaramangalam Government Hospital dean, Dr N. Mohan, two newborns from the Dharmapuri GH had been shifted to Salem and were undergoing intensive treatment at the neo-natal care unit.

In all, 98 newborns were being treated at the neo-natal care unit of the Salem GH. Of them, 18 kids are in a critical condition and are being given specialised treatment. While 60 kids belonged to the first level of critical stage, 20 kids are in the second level of critical stage.

“We are providing utmost care for all the kids, especially the 14 newborns which are in the third level of critical stage.” Besides, a round-the-clock medical team was providing assistance to parents who have delivered pre-term babies which have developed complications.

Meanwhile in Dharmapuri, a team of specialists from Chennai were offering intensive care for the newborns battling for life at the GH. The members of the Vivasayi Viduthali Munnani protested outside the Dharmapuri GH urging compensation for deceased kids’ parents.
