Status quo sought on AOC road use

The authorities had also decided to impose a complete ban on civilian traffic

Hyderabad: In view of the MMTS phase-II works, which are currently going on in full swing, the Suburban Train and Bus Travellers’ Association has requested that the AOC road closure imposed by the Army (between 10 pm and 7 am) not be extended as more than 1 lakh vehicles pass through the Safilguda level-crossing gate.

Following a recent court order, the Army authorities are imposing restrictions on civilian traffic every day from 10 pm to 7 am. The authorities had also decided to impose a complete ban on civilian traffic from January 1, but the decision was withdrawn later on.

With the AOC being the major connector for 13 lakh residents living in the Malkajgiri Parliament constituency, any further restrictions from the Army would cut off the essential routes.

The committee formed by the Army authorities, which that included residential welfare associations, had recently conducted a mini survey with the help of the GHMC North zone commissioner to identify en routes which could be turned into alternative ways once a total ban was imposed at AOC.

“At present more than 1 lakh vehicles pass through the Safilguda railway station, but the passage of vehicles will reduce drastically from these areas once the MMTS phase-II is completed.

The work has commenced on the Bolarum-Medchal section and we request the authorities to maintain the current status quo on the issue till the MMTS work is completed,” said Noor, the general secretary, Suburban Train and Bus Travellers’ Association.
