PWD to have toilets under PPP model

It will be a blessing for travellers, especially women and tourists

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bringing relief to the people, especially commuters, the Public Works Department will set up toilet complexes in various cities and along service roads.

Attached to the complexes, there will also be a coffee shop, memento centre, ATM, and a park with car wash centre.

Being established on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model under the aegis of Ashwas Public Amenities Kerala, the first toilet complex will be ready at Aroor in Ernakulam district next month.

Coinciding with the World Tourism Day, PWD Minister V. K. Ebrahimkunju said that Ashwas Public Amenities Kerala, which was launched last year as per the advice of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, had also been creating awareness about clean and safe sanitation.

He said a mere toilet facility round-the-clock would be difficult to maintain and hence added other amenities.

“We have gained technical knowhow from World Toilet Organisation and toilet associations in other countries. Work is progressing at the Aroor facility which would work 24/7.

It will be a blessing for travellers, especially women and tourists,” Mr Ebrahimkunju said.
