Power pole to give way for wider road

KSEB to prepare estimate of cost involved

Kochi: For long, an electric pole located at the Kathrikadavy Jn was obstructing the smooth flow of traffic from the Tammanam side as various agencies tussled with each other on who should bear the relocation cost.

Finally, the agencies decided on shifting the pole and the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is in the process of preparing an estimate. However, sources said it wants the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) to bear the cost.

“We’ve prepared a Rs 1.65 crore project report to relay the road from Kathrikadavu Jn to Sahodaran Ayyapan Road and submitted it for government approval. We’re widening the Kathrikadavu Jn and for this, the relocation of the electric pole is crucial. But the KSEB wants us to bear the relocation cost,” said a GCDA official.

When contacted, a KSEB official said “the issue was discussed in detail in recent meetings and finally it was decided to relocate the post.

Though the GCDA is widening the KK Road, the post is located at the road towards the Tammanam side which is under the Cochin Corporation. Anyway we are preparing the estimate,” a KESB official said.

Meanwhile, the Kerala Water Authority has sought the permission of the GCDA to dig up the Kathrikadavu-Kaloor section for laying a new pipeline.

“The tarring of the section will be done after the pipe-laying works. The KK Road and the Tammanam-Pullepaddy road have become the key vital links for Kochiites,” the GCDA official said.
