KOZHIKODE: All India Sunni JamIyyathul Ulema general secretary Kanthapuram A.P.Aboobacker Musalyar has clarified they are neither against nor for Narendra Modi.
Speaking at the Muallim conference, a curtain raiser for the SYS State conference in Malappuram on Tuesday, Kanthapuram said some had portrayed him as a Modi supporter. “
When I said that communal violence was comparatively less in India, I was asked about the Gujarat riots. This was later wrongly interpreted that I was in support of Modi,” he said.
He further he clarified: “We are neither in support nor up in arms against Narendra Modi. All citizens can live in India according to the Constitution irrespective of who rules.
The Constitution permits all to live according to their religious beliefs,” he explained.
At the same time Aboobacker Musalyar quickly added that his comment did not mean that they would completely endorse all that was enshrined in the Constitution.
“If we have reservations, we will raise that within the confines of law. That has been the precedence,” he added.
He pointed that India was a country where 85 per cent of the population was non-Muslims. “Even if 85 per cent are Muslims, the religion teaches us to live in harmony with all other sects,” he said.
