Hot curves are making an iconic comeback

Hyderabad: When Kim Kardashian shed her clothes and flaunted her curves, there was not an ounce of criticism. She was proud of her body as she went on record to say, “I love the photos, I did it for me.”
Probably, that is what made the shoot all the more iconic! Even ace Tennis star Serena Williams, who stripped down to bare essentials for an Australian lingerie brand was happy about her curves and effused, “'I have learned to be proud of my curves and to embrace them.
It’s important to love who you are and realise that you’re beautiful, no matter what society says,” in an interview. Not only that, the 35-year-old sports woman showed off her curves sporting a bikini in a picture she posted on Instagram.
There are many other celebrities that are not intimidated by the size zero bandwagon, and are coming out to show off their ‘heavier sides’. There is support and a fan following for their work, as they break the stereotyped size-zero idea and celebrate women for who they are.
Even Indian actresses for that matter, from Sonakshi Sinha, Parineeti Chopra, Huma Qureshi and Vidya Balan are focusing more on their talent on screen than anything else. For instance, Huma Qureshi was recently complimented for being voluptuous and curvy, in a popular online website. To support all this, fashion designers embrace the ‘pear-shaped curves’, as they call it, an “Indian thing.”
Like Aarti Vijay Gupta, a Mumbai-based designer who has showcased her works at some of the most prominent fashion weeks explains, “Around 80 per cent of Indian women are curvy, and when it comes to seeing skinny celebrities walk past you you notice there is some factor that is missing.
They do not look real and it feels plastic sometimes,” adding to which she says that, designing for women on the heavier side is actually fun. “I would love to design for a woman who feels good about the way she looks and does not worry about her curves.
In the end, fashion is not just about the outfit it is also about how one carries oneself, and one has to love the way they look to flaunt it right.”
