Telangana Legislative Assembly adjourned over defections by MLAs

Chevella Congress MLA Mr K.Yadaiah had defected to the TRS

Hyderabad: Telangana Legislative Assembly was adjourned for the day without transacting any business on Monday.

Opposition Congress MLAs stormed into the podium demanding action against the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for openly encouraging defections from Opposition parties. They pointed out that Mr Rao was violating the Constitution by openly giving a call to members of all parties to join the TRS to achieve Bangaru Telangana (golden Telangana).

Earlier, two adjournments of 10 minutes and 30 minutes each did not bring order in the House as the Congress members demanded a discussion on the adjournment motion on defections forcing Speaker S. Madhusudana Chary to adjourn the House for the day.

The Congress' adjournment motion came in the backdrop of defection of several Congress and Telugu Desam legislators into the ruling TRS.

Even on Sunday, the Chevella Congress MLA Mr K.Yadaiah had defected to the TRS, infuriating the Opposition party.

The Congress insisted that the issue be discussed in the House and the Speaker disqualify the defectors.

Legislative Affairs Minister Mr T Harish Rao reminded the agitated members that the adjournments motions could be taken up only at the end of Question Hour as agreed in the BAC meeting.

IT minister Mr K T Rama Rao mocked at the protesting members saying it was the Congress that initiated defections.

"Everyone knows how the Congress made 10 out of 26 TRS MLAs defect to its side when it was in power between 2004 and 2009. You are now trying to preach sermons," Mr Rama Rao remarked.

As the Congress MLAs remained in the podium raising slogans, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
