This man securely stores his Bitcoins inside his own body

Bitcoins are safer inside his body and since it’s offline, it can’t be hacked

True as it can be, storing something inside ones own body can be the safest place to hide something from the world. However, it was not practical until a while ago.

Science and technology are working together to miniaturise the existing footprint of almost everything tech. From computers to phones, everything has seen successful miniature versions.

A while ago, NFC and RFID chips were large and could not be stored inside tiny objects because of the large size of the antenna that requires powering the chip and transfer data. However, a breakthrough in the technology of NFC and RFID chips has managed to reduce the size of an RFID chip to a mere grain of salt.

Taking advantage of this, Martijn Wismeijer, a Dutch entrepreneur and Bitcoin enthusiast has managed to transfer his Bitcoins to an NFC chip and inject the chip into his hands.

ArsTechnica reported that Martijn has an NFC chip embedded in each hand, in the webbing between the thumb and the index finger. While one hand’s NFC chip has the contact details, the other one holds the encrypted private key to his e-wallet. All he needs to do is to transfer the data by simply placing his hand over the other user’s NFC-enabled smartphone.

The NFC chips injected inside his hands are NFC Type 2 compliant NTAG216 RFID chipsets. These are embedded in a tiny glass capsule (2mm x 12mm) and injected into the fleshy part of his hand between his thumb and index finger. Each NFC capsule can hold just about 880 bytes of data. This amount of data is enough for a cold storage wallet. He obtained the pre-loaded NFC syringe for $99 from DangerousThings.com, a website that sells to hobbyists and biohackers.

So what is next? Taking an example from Martijn, it won’t be long until the fiction from movies will turn into reality where every human will have an NFC chip embedded inside him or her at birth. This chip could store massive details such as identity, bank accounts, credit cards, and a lot more.

So imaging walking up to your ATM and simply waving out to the machine to dispense cash, or driving past a toll booth to pay by your hands. The future is here already.
