Comic confusion

Sharman Joshi gave the city a glimpse of his brilliance on stage
Although known for this Bollywood films, Sharman Joshi gave the city a glimpse of his brilliance on the stage on Sunday. In Hyderabad, to stage the Hindi production Raju, Raja, Ram Aur Main at Shilpakala Vedika, Sharman wowed the audience by carrying off four roles — changing costumes and characters within seconds. As if that wasn’t enough of a rush for the packed house, the play even had a four-minute song giving the staging a feature film quality.
The duration of the show was also similar to that of a feature film, close to two-and-a-half hours. The play written and directed by renowned Marathi filmmaker Kedar Shinde, put Sharman in four roles. The narrative begins with his first role as Madan Sukhnandani, who is killed by his second wife. The play then moves on the phase of comic confusion as his brother and two wives fight over property.
The three find look-alikes of Madan to convince each other that the will is in their favour — leaving the audience in splits. The confusion culminates with the return of the real Madan and the kin mistaking him for the look-alikes.
