Class 11 boy punched to death at Dindigul school

Classroom scuffle resulted in boy been punched on back of neck due to which he died
Chennai: A classroom scuffle over a torn textbook ended with the death of a class 11 student. A 16-year-old student of the Government Kallar Reclamation Higher Secondary School died after being punched by his classmate on Wednesday near Batlagundu in Dindigul district.The incident happened during the morning interval at Vilampatti village. The police identified the deceased as A. Vinod, 16, son of Asai Thampi from the Vilampatti village.
“Vinod received a punch on the back of his neck from his classmate during the fight over tearing of his Tamil book. Vinod had hit the other boy for tearing his book. The other boy retaliated by punching him which landed on the back of his neck. Vinod collapsed in the classroom and died because of impact of punch he received. The other student had been arrested for murder,” said inspector Senthil Kumar, who is investigating the case.
“Everything happened in a matter of five minutes during the interval. By the time we took the boy in an auto rickshaw to Nilkottai government hospital, he died,” one of the school staff said. At the hospital, he was declared dead on arrival. The police after conducting enquiries at the school said that the two were exchanging blows and one punch landed on the back of the neck of Vinod killing him on the spot
“It was not an intentional act of murder.
But we have booked his classmate for murder. Both were friends,” Vilampatti police said.The school headmaster was unreachable despite repeated attempts made by this newspaper to contact him.The police said that tension prevailed in the village following the incident as agitated family members of the deceased started gathering at the police station in groups. No untoward incident had happened.
Funeral is expected to be over by late in the evening.Meanwhile education department officials said that there would be departmental enquiry into the incident.
