If there are elections again in three to four months, the state cannot afford it

MUMBAI: Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar put Devendra Fadnavis-led BJP government in a tight spot on Monday saying that he never said anything about ensuring a stable government for the next five years.
Mr Pawar’s move has also put a question mark on the stability of the BJP’s minority government in Maharashtra, especially as the Shiv Sena is preparing to sit in the Opposition. The BJP has 121 MLAs in the state Assembly and the vote of confidence motion is to be moved on November 12. The party needs to have 145 MLAs to to be in majority.
Speaking on the issue, Mr Pawar said that his party will extend unconditional support to the BJP for a stable government in Maharashtra and this is a conscious and collective decision taken by them.
“We want stability in the state. If there are elections again in three to four months, the state cannot afford it. Fresh elections will be a burden on the state exchequer and the administration as well,” Mr Pawar said.
When a journalist was asking Mr Pawar about him saying that he wanted a stable government, the latter stopped him and said, “This is what you have said, not me.” Mr Pawar’s said.
