Cyclone brews over east coast

Andaman Sea is likely to grow into a low-pressure area over the next 24 hours

Visakhapatnam: The east coast could face another cyclone if a low pressure area brewing over the Gulf of Siam and adjoining Andaman Sea gains strength.

A trough of low, normally an extended region of low atmospheric pressure, whi-ch formed over the Tenas-serim coast and the Andaman Sea, is likely to grow into a low-pressure area over the next 24 hours, the Indian Meteorological Department said in a bulletin.

Weather officials said local conditions were conducive for the possible intensification of the low pressure.

“We cannot predict its intensification right now. We will get a clear picture after the formation of the low pressure area. We expect the trough of low and upper cyclonic circulation will combine and form a low pressure in the next 24 hours,” Y. K. Reddy of the Met department said. “It may gain strength depending on conditions in the region.”
