130 shops in malls booked by the labour department

Khaiser said that shops were functioning without any permit even on Sundays

Hyderabad: A total of 130 cases were booked by the labour department against shops and establishments for functioning on Sunday without permission from the government. Shops and stores at the malls in Kukatpally, Old Bowenpally, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Punjagutta, Somajiguda, Himayatnagar and other areas were booked mainly under the Section 12 (1) of the Shops and Establishments Act. A few other violations included not displaying license from the government, maintenance of a record book and also a list of visitors’ information.

“Inspections were held across the city and we booked cases against them for not abiding by the law. We booked over 60 cases. They were functioning without any permit even on Sundays,” said Sajid Khaiser, assistant commissioner, labour department,

Another 69 cases were booked in circles 3 and 4, as directed by joint labour commissioner Y. Gangadhar. “For the first offence, a sum of Rs 100 is collected as fine per count of the sections, whereas for the second offence, a fine of Rs 500 is collected as fine per count of an offence, whereas for an offence committed the third time, the punishment is imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500 as fine per count of an offence," stated A. Nagaraju, assistant commissioner, labour department.
