University Grants Commission plans bank of teachers

Sources stated that the situation was similarly alarming at IITs, IIMs and NITs

New Delhi: To overcome a shortfall of teachers in educational institutions, the University Grants Commission is soon likely to create a bank of trained teachers.

These teachers will be deployed in educational institutions facing acute shortage and will also be expected to train new recruits in professional teaching techniques.

The step came after it was revealed that more than one third positions of teachers vacant in central universities across the country. Sources stated that the situation was similarly alarming at IITs, IIMs and NITs.

Sources stated that the plan is to create a bank of teachers whose services can be utilised across the country for filling in the requirement of teachers.
