Hyderabad High Court cancels Telangana ordinance

Govt stopped members of agricultural market committees from holding office
Hyderabad: Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar on Friday struck down an ordinance issued by the Telangana government which stopped members, chairman and vice-chairman of agricultural market committees from holding office.
Masani Srinivas Reddy, chairman of the market committee in Banswada of Nizamabad district, and others urged the court to declare the Ordinance as illegal.
Counsels contended that mere reduction of members of AMCs cannot lead to removal of chairman, vice-chairman and others, who were appointed for a period of three years based on the provisions existing as on that date. On an appeal by the state, the bench agreed to keep the verdict in abeyance for eight days.
