Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader enters India by mistake

Qureshi went ahead for a handshake with Indian officials

Islamabad: Former Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Thursday inadvertently stepped into Indian territory while visiting the Wagah border. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf vice-chairman Mr Qureshi visited the border to show sympathy with the Rangers in the wake of the suicide attack which killed at least 61 people and injured more than 100 last week. While visiting the zero line, Mr Qureshi went ahead for a handshake with Indian officials and in the process stepped across the border.

Private television channels showed that a Pakistan Rangers official rushed towards him and immediately pulled him back on the Pakistan side of the border. The ex-minister looked a little flustered. The Wagah border is the main land border crossing between Pakistan and India, which is heavily guarded by the Punjab Rangers on the Pakistani side.
