Mumbai: All India Majlis-e-Itteh-adul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly condem-ned the remarks made by Praniti Shinde, the Congress MLA from Solapur Central, over banning his party.
Mr Owaisi asked her to immediately withdraw her statement or face a criminal defamation case. Meanwhile, Ms Shinde, the daughter of former Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, has claimed that her statement was not against any particular pa-rty.
On Wednesday, Ms Praniti had demanded a ban on the MIM saying that the party was working against the country’s interest.
Reacting to her statement, Mr Owaisi on Thursday said that Ms Shinde’s comments showed her frustration as she could only win by a small margin against the MIM’s candidate.
“She must remember that her own party had taken the support of the AIMIM at the Centre between 2004 to 2012 and also during the vote of trust motion in 2008,” Mr Owaisi said.
The MIM had also extended support to the Kiran Kumar government in Andhra Pradesh,” Mr Owaisi said.
The Hyderabad MP asked Ms Shinde to introspect why the Congress lost badly in Maharashtra, instead of making reckless statements.
However, in a fresh development, Ms Shinde clarified that her remarks did not aim at AIMIM in particular. "My statement was not for a particular party, but for all parties that are disturbing the secular fabric of our country," she said.
