Movie review 'Brother of Bommali': It’s Naresh's show all the way

Allari Naresh has created his own space in Tollywood with his brand of comedy and in Brother of Bommali, he has continued to play to his strengths.

The film is a brother-sister comedy wherein Karthika plays his sister. B. Chinni Krishna is the director, while Monal Gajjar plays the female lead.

Ramakrishna or Ramky (Naresh) and Mahalakshmi or Lucky (Karthika) are twins. Ramky grows up to be an easy-going boy while Lucky becomes a tomboy who is always creating problems for her family.

Ramky wants to get married to his ladylove Shruti (Monal Gajjar) but his parents want his sister Lucky to get married first. Lucky says that she will only marry one Harsha (Harshavardhan Rane) but he is already engaged to a factionist’s (Nagineed) daughter (Bhanu Sri Mehra).

The story then goes on to portray how Ramky manages to cancel Harsha’s marriage and fixes him up with his sister so that he himself can get married.

While the subject is interesting, director Chinni Krishna hasn’t managed to execute it well. The film is entertaining in parts, but the story is very predictable. The hurried climax could have been better.

The film reminds one of Manmadhudu, Kandireega, Nuvvu Naku Nachav, Arya 2, Golmaal and many others.

When it comes to the performance, Allari Naresh and Karthika steal the show. Naresh impresses as usual with his punch dialogues and impeccable comic timing. He has proved that he can make this kind of characters his own. In fact, he carries the film on his shoulders.

Karthika has performed equally well. She is perfect for the tomboy’s role and is equally good in action and comedy scenes.

And while Monal Gajjar has come up with a decent performance, Harshvardhan Rane looks pale and dull in his special role as Karthika's boy friend.

Brahmanandam is seen mostly in the second half and he plays a cook named Kona Venkat. The name is familiar in Tollywood, but his character has not been portrayed as expected. Bhanu Sri Mehra and Abhimanyu Singh is seen in small roles, but they look good. Vennela Kishore, Ali, Sirnivas Reddy provided a few laughs as supporting actors.

While the music of Sekhar Chandra is average, most of the dialogues are one-liners and interesting.

The movie has good performances but in the end it's a regular film with many flaws. It is a routine comedy when compare to Allari Naresh's earlier films. Other than a few laughs here and there, the movie offers nothing new.

It is, however, watchable for its entertainment value.
