ISL: Kerala Blasters seal first home game, beat FC Goa

Milagres Gonzalves scores winner as Zico’s boys fail to maintain form

Kochi: Riding on Milagres Gonsalves’ goal in the 64th minute, hosts Kerala Blasters FC defeated FC Goa 1-0 in their Indian Super League encounter here on Thursday.

The hosts missed Iain Hume’s services who is injured and had made four changes. Avinabo Bag, Raphael Romey, Saumik Dey and player-manager David James joined back post the loss to Mumbai City FC on Sunday.

Former Arsenal legend Robert Pires made a comeback after being suspended while Andre Santos stayed out.

However, the hosts’ sole goal resulted from a Stephen Pearson corner that found Penn Orji inside the box. He did not go for the kill but passed it to Andrew Barisic. Gonsalves finished the job by tapping the ball as he stood across the face of the post.

The win here takes Kerala to fifth place in the standings.
