Now Karti Chidambaram for review of AICC

Karti suggested a review of the nature of functioning of the AICC

Chennai: Jolted by the exit of senior leader G.K. Vasan over “mishandling” of party affairs, Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union minister P. Chidambaram, disapproved of the role of the high command’s observers in managing affairs of states.

Karti suggested a review of the nature of functioning of the AICC. “It is a matter of concern that some people have left when the party is in a challenging situation, which requires collective effort to rebuild the organisation,” he said, conceding that the grouses of some who quit the Congress might be “legitimate”.

“Thought should be given to the present managerial structure in regard to the high command’s observers. Managing party affairs in states and changes that are necessary should be made,” Karti, an AICC member, said.

Dismissing allegations that his father’s camp had not cooperated with erstwhile TNCC chief B.S. Gnanadesikan as “unfounded”, Karti suggested that extensive touring and interaction with the cadres and people was imperative to rebuild the party.

His views assume significance coming against the background of allegations by Vasan and his supporters of mishandling affairs in Tamil Nadu by party incharge Mukul Wasnik.

On the differences among several leaders in Tamil Nadu unit, he said efforts should be made to evolve a consensus on all issues, overcoming differences as it happened in Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee.
