Bengaluru: The meeting between parents and the management of Indiranagar Cambridge school, where a six-year-old girl was sexually assaulted last week, saw some chaotic moments when some local politicians of BJP and Congress tried to score political points on Wednesday morning.
The parents lamented that the meeting got reduced to a slugfest between politicians. Around 500 parents attended the meeting and media personnel were barred from school premises.
The parents were upset when a group of local leaders of ruling party gathered outside the school and began protesting. They wanted entry to the meeting as some opposition party leaders were attending it.
“The meeting was fruitless, it was only the fight between politicians that dominated the meeting rather than discussing solutions and the way forward,” said Prabhakhar, a parent.
While Bengaluru Central MP P.C. Mohan, C. V. Raman Nagar MLA S. Raghu and Jeevan Bhima Nagar ward Corporator K. Chandrashekar managed to attend the meeting, while Congress leader P Ramesh and his supporters, who came late, were upset that they were not allowed inside.
“We are elected representatives representing the local, state and central governments. We were invited by the police to attend the meeting. It was not fair for some other partymen to attend the meeting. The police should have stopped them,” argued Raghu.
Later there was total chaos when the parents objected to local netas trying to gain political mileage and not letting a solution to emerge. An infuriated parent, Ramakrishna, who was attending the meeting lost his cool and began to shout at the politicians who were reportedly fighting over sharing the dais, following which the cops had to drag Ramakrishna out of the meeting hall.
Shriveni, whose four-year-old son is studying in the school, said, “I had come to the school to find out when the school would reopen. But all I found here was politicians fighting among themselves.
Reddi intervenes
The situation was brought under control only after the intervention of the city Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi around 12.50 pm. He later addressed the meeting.
"After the incident, we have met the parents and security measures to be adopted have been communicated to the school.
The school will reopen on Thursday and they will install 90 CCTV cameras by Monday and other safety measures would be put in place," Reddi said.
