Complaint against MDMK member
Coimbatore: Hundreds of residents from Pollachi lodged a complaint with the Pollachi DSP office alleging that an MDMK member had cheated them by running a Deepavali chit fund scheme.
Residents of Nelluthukuli, Kosuvamadai, Ponnaiyur and Paraimedu villages in Nelluthukuli panchayat, in Pollachi, lodged a complaint with the police against Murugesan.
They said he was an active member of the MDMK from Paraimadai in Pollachi and had collected about Rs 100 to Rs 1000 from each villager on a weekly basis, promising to hand over cash along with sweets during the Deepavali festival.
However, he had cheated them, they said, and also alleged that Murugesan had been threatening the villagers against approaching the police. Based on the petition from the villagers, DSP Muthuraj directed the taluk police inspector to investigate the matter.
Murugesan said the total money received from the public had been invested in another chit fund and that he will hand over the entire amount to the public next week. The police are investigating further.
