Assam CM Tarun Gogoi rejects PM Modi drive to cut costs

CM said such a move is directly going to affect his state
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi here on Tuesday said that he was not going to follow the austerity measure of the Modi-government which has imposed a total ban on new posts and those that have remained vacant for more than a year will not be filled except under very rare and unavoidable circumstances.
Mr Gogoi said that such a move is directly going to affect his state where majority of the people are engaged in the government sector. Pointing out that such a ban was also imposed by the previous NDA regime, Mr Gogoi said, “Assam is not Gujarat where a large number of employment is generated by the private sector.”
Announcing that his government has decided to fill up all the vacancies, including that of nearly 6,000 in the state police force, he said, “I don’t know how Modi-government is going to bring achche din by banning recruitment.”
