HCU students booked for kiss

Students booked for indulging in obscene act in public

Hyderabad: Cyberabad police booked a case against HCU students who kissed during the “UOH in solidarity” event. They were booked for indulging in obscene act in public.

The police also booked a case against Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and Akhila Bharatiya Vidya Paris-had (ABVP) activists for illegally entering into the campus.

Gachibowli police had received a complaint from the university administration one day ago regarding the issue.

“We have got a complaint from the UoH registrar alleging that many students engaged in kissing and it caused inconvenience to the public. So, we have booked a case against the students under Section 294 of IPC for indulging in obscene activities,” said Gachib-owli police inspector Mr J. Ramesh.

The police officials said that several BJYM and ABVP activists, outsiders, from outside ente-red into the campus illegally and tried to clash with the students.

“We have booked them under Section 447 of IPC for illegal trespass,” said the inspector.

The police has started collecting evidences against the accused, whose name and number have not been mentioned in the FIR.

Meanwhile, reacting to the case, HCU students said university officials and police are indulging in moral policing by slapping charges against them.

“How can kissing in public be obscene? It’s just an expression of love. We will fight back the case legally,” said one of the event organisers.

The pro vice-chancellor of HCU, Prof. Haribabu, said that the university decided to file the case since it caused inconvenience to the university community. “The organisers of the event did not take permission from the administration,” he said.
