Six waste processing units to be set up

BBMP has planned to set up waste processing units across the city

Bengaluru: As a way forward and to scientifically process the waste and to stop the concept of dumping the trash, the BBMP has planned to set up waste processing units across the city.

However, concerned citizens feel that the ‘way forward’ to solve the garbage crisis should not turn into avenues for fresh problems by choosing the wrong locations.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, District in-charge minister Ramalinga Reddy said that six waste processing units are being set up across the city to process the waste scientifically.

Lingadheeranahalli near Banashankari 5th stage, Seegehalli and Kannahalli off Magadi Road, Subbarayanapaly on Mysore Road, Doddabidarakallu near Laggere and MSGP near Doddaballapura are the six plants which are under construction.

Once these processing units commence processing, the garbage problem will be solved to a major extent.

Right To Information (RTI) activist B. M. Shivakumar said that Banashankari 5th stage for waste processing unit is a wrong pick as it would affect the ecology and wildlife near Turahalli forest.

Although forest and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) authorities denied a no objection certificate, the BBMP authorities claim to have got the clearance from them, he said.

A couple of months ago, villagers at Doddaballapur too raised the flag of objection. However, with the intervention of local leaders and by assuring certain infrastructure facilities like providing better roads and amenities the opposition has been subdued, said sources.
