ISL: Anelka spurs Mumbai to 1-0 win over Kerala Blasters

Frenchman scores debut goal as Peter Reid’s boys win by narrow margin
Mumbai: Nicolas Anelka provided the spark to lift Mumbai City FC to their second win in the Indian Super League with a facile 1-0 victory over Kerala Blasters at the D.Y. Patil Stadium here on Sunday.
The former French and Chelsea star shot in a curling free kick just before the breather that swung late to deceive goalkeeper Sandip Nandy completely.
Anelka’s last goal was for West Bromwich Albion in the English Premier League and he was penalised for allegedly making the quenelle gesture. But this time, no one seemed to be complaining as he showcased his trademark celebration.
Mumbai City, who were at the bottom of the table before the game, replaced Kerala Blasters FC to go fifth in the league standings. Injured Kerala Blasters manager and goalkeeper David James sat out and Nandy was handed the duty instead.
