Coimbatore: Madras high court judge M. Jaichandran inaugurated an additional family court at Coimbatore district court complex on Saturday morning.
Family disputes are increasing by 5 to 10 per cent every year in Coimbatore. And about 4,599 cases are pending before the family court in Coimbatore, the judge said. So, an additional family court will help speed up the disposal of the pending cases, he said.
According to the judge, there were around 12 vacancies of judicial officers in Coimbatore and it would be filled soon. The vacancies of judicial staff would also be filled up soon.
"The family court was started in in Coimbatore in 1995. And 4,599 cases are pending before the court, of which 1,687 cases are pending for more than 15 years. The family dispute cases have been increasing 5-10 per cent every year in Coimbatore. Judicial officers and lawyers should try to settle these disputes amicably," said Mr Jaichandran.
He appealed to lawyers, who are in the profession of serving the litigant public, to stop resorting to court boycotts. Instead, they should settle their grievances through discussions with judicial officers, he suggested.
Minister for municipal administration, rural development and law, Mr S.P. Velumani, Coimbatore MP, Mr A.P. Nagarajan, Mr R Arunachalam, member, bar council of Tamil Nadu, collector Archana Patnaik, and Coimbatore bar association president P. Nandakumar addressed the inaugural function. Principal district judge N. Seshasayee, judicial officers and lawyers participated.
