What’s wrong if I slam govt: Dr G Parameshwar

KPCC president takes on ministers who are upset with his criticism of the style of functioning of the state govt

Bengaluru: Launching a veiled attack against certain ministers who expressed their ire over his remarks on the style of functioning of the state government, KPCC president Dr G. Parameshwar on Friday asserted that as head of the state unit of the ruling party he had every right to offer advice or criticise the style of functioning of the government.

Speaking at an event organized to commemorate the 30th death anniversary of the late prime minister, Indira Gandhi, at KPCC office here, he said these leaders ought to have restrained themselves from making such statements against him. “I advise them to have some amount of respect for the position of president of KPCC,” he added.

He said when elections are declared, it is the party which faces people, and not the government. Therefore, the president of the state unit of the party has the right to comment and advise the ruling party to improve its style of functioning.

Dr. Parameshwar next targeted the media for publishing reports about differences between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and himself.

“We both are like siblings. There is not a single difference of opinion which exists between us. The differences were buried on the day AICC president, Sonia Gandhi, declared Siddaramaiah as the leader of our party.

There was no disagreement between Mr Siddaramaiah and myself even when we distributed 224 tickets to our party candidates for Assembly polls in 2013. We have worked as a team throughout,” he added.

Dr Parameshwar asked his party men not to pay heed to rumours about his soured relationship with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
