K T Rama Rao grills latecomers at Secretariat offices

He was shocked to find that only four out of 21 section officers had turned up till 11
Hyderabad: Late comers to offices at the Secretariat were ticked off on Thursday by minister for information technology minister and panchayat raj K.T. Rama Rao.
Mr Rao made a surprise inspection in D-block at 10.50 am and found that most of the chairs were vacant. Employees had not turned up even at 11 am.
The minister said though the TRS government is “employee-friendly”, lack of punctuality will not be tolerated. Surprise inspections will continue and action will be initiated against late-comers in future.
“I came here only to find out whether employees were punctual. I was shocked to see most employees had not turned up even at 11 am. Indiscipline will affect the administration and ultimately the public will suffer due to delay in delivering services,” Mr Rao said.
He inspected the panchayat raj and rural development departments and was shocked to find that only four out of a total 21 section officers had turned up till 11 am. Mr Rao expressed his ire saying that when SOs, who head their sections are not punctual, how can one expect the other staff to come on time.
“The TRS government is very liberal towards employees. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced health cards without upper cap for cashless treatment in all hospital, special Telangana increment, and central pay scales among others.
Employees played a key role in the statehood agitation. Now it’s their responsibility to work with the same spirit in reconstruction of Telangana. Since we are a new state formed just four months ago, it is important for them to have commitment and sincerity towards their job. Sadly, it was missing during my inspection,” Mr Rao said.
He clarified that the inspections are not aimed at harassing the employees but to see that the public do not suffer on account of negligence and indiscipline of some employees.
