Back from injury, Rohit Sharma begins mission World Cup

Indian batsman to play for India A in the warm up game against Sri Lanka
Mumbai: Making a comeback post an injury in never easy. More so if you’re an Indian cricketer and your area of excellence is batting. Competition is fierce and some time away from game only results in catching up job. The only way back in the side is either an injury to another player or a prolonged unimpressive show. India batsman Rohit Sharma sustained a fracture on the middle finger on the England tour and since then missed the Champions League Twenty20 and home series against West Indies.
With the World Cup not too far away, the stylish batsman now faces a race against time. On Thursday, he will take the first step towards convincing the selectors and the team management that he deserves a place in the Indian squad when he represents India A in the official tour game against the Angelo Mathews-led Sri Lanka. “There is nothing much you can do when you are injured. Mentally it is quite frustrating. When it happens you have to deal with it and treat the injury. I have done that, and now I am back on the field and it is time to play cricket,” said a Rohit in a chat with this newspaper.
The 27-year-old has not played any competitive game post the injury and it has only been 10 days since he resumed his training. But Rohit sounded confident ahead of the game. “It was important for me to play this game at this stage. Many in the India A team are looking to get back into the national team. I am confident of achieving whatever I need to from this game.” Though he might be short on match practice, the Brabourne Stadium is a familiar venue for the Mumbai captain, who cracked a triple century, his top-score in the first-class cricket at the venue. “This is one of my favourite venues. What better way to make a comeback?”
While the WC remains a goal, the opener does not want to try too hard. “When you are coming back from an injury there is always a chance of it recurring. It is important to keep doing the right things.”
