Three villages refuse to give land for new AP capital

Some farmers said that the officials should first acquire lands of wealthy farmers
Guntur: Farmers are divided into two groups over giving up land for the new AP capital in the Tulluru mandal of Guntur district. Farmers of three villages rejected the idea of land pooling, while farmers of three other villages have agreed to land pooling, though with several conditions.
Revenue officials led by revenue divisional officers of Guntur and Gurajala divisions, Bhaskar Naidu and E. Murali, had a bitter experience while interacting with the farmers of Uddandarayunipalem, Mandadam and Velagapudi villages during the awareness meeting on land pooling. The officials, on observing the severe opposition from the farmers, cancelled the meeting.
As many as 300 farmers of the above mentioned villages alleged that the officials are excluding some villages from land pooling, where the TD and the BJP leaders have their lands.
Farmers, K. Venkata Rao and D. Yedukondalu said that the officials should first acquire lands of wealthy farmers, before taking their lands. The duo and other farmers together said that they would not give their lands for the new capital till acquisition of lands of wealthy farmers and political leaders.
RDO Bhaskar Naidu tried to pacify the farmers by explaining the benefits of land pooling, but the farmers maintained their position. Mr Bhaskar Naidu also warned that there are chances of land acquisition, if they don’t agree to pooling.
