Supreme Court to hear Subramaniam Swamy's plea on defamation charges

Jayalalithaa has filed five defamation complaints against Mr Swamy for comments on social media

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear a plea filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy seeking quashing of criminal defamation cases filed by AIADMK chief J. Jayalalithaa against him for his statements against her.
A bench headed by Chief Justice H.L. Dattu, before whom the case was mentioned by Mr Swamy, said that matter has been entrusted to another bench which will hear it on Thursday. The BJP leader also challenged the IPC provision relating to criminal defamation. Former Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa has filed five defamation complaints against Mr Swamy for comments on social media.
