RSS marches to mark Chola king coronation

King Rajendra is considered one of the greatest rulers and military leaders of the Tamil Chola empire
Chennai: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has proposed to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of the coronation of King Rajendra Chola in a grand manner in the state. Among the other things aimed at popularising this great monarch’s contribution, the sawayamsevaks will take out route marches on November 9 across the state.
In view of this unique occasion, it has been proposed to include the RSS sympathisers as well as family members in the huge processions.
Son of the great Raja Raja Chola I, King Rajendra (reign 1012-1044 CE) is considered one of the greatest rulers and military leaders of the Tamil Chola empire. During his reign, he extended the influences of the already vast Chola empire up to the banks of the river Ganga in the north and across the ocean and his territories extended to Burma, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Maldives. His fleet of ships fetched him glory.
The celebrations would be organised in a grand manner in the state in response to RSS sarkaryavah Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi’s call. It is said Rajendra is credited with establishing a university for Vedic studies at Ennayiram in Tamil Nadu.
