Five surrender for AIADMK functionary Ezhumalai murder

Police attributed the murder to the ongoing tussle between the families of Ezhumalai and his sister-in-law
Chennai: Five persons surrendered in two different courts in the city on Wednesday in connection with the murder of AIADMK man Ezhumalai in Velachery early Tuesday morning.
The city police claimed that they were hunting for the main suspect, identified as Joseph, a relative of the deceased. A family feud led to the murder, the police said. The surrendered men were identified as Robin, 22, friend of Joseph, and their friends Vikram, Saravanan, Vinod and Aravind.
The police attributed the murder to the ongoing tussle between the families of Ezhumalai and his sister-in-law. Ezhumalai’s elder brother, Mathiyazhagan, died in 2011.
“Immediately after the death, problem started between Ezhumalai and Sahaya Mary, Mathiyazhagan’s wife. Ezhumalai wanted perform the last rites of his brother in his way which Mary and her sister Santhi objected to. At the time, Santhi’s son Joseph had a major fight with Ezhumalai. Because Ezhumalai had allegedly been publicly denouncing and assaulting Joseph and his friends Robin and others, the feud got bigger in the last three years.
The relationship between the families deteriorated last week when Eazhmalai assaulted Robin at a funeral. “Immediately after the incident, Joseph and Robin conspired to eliminate Ezhumalai and executed their plan on Tuesday when the victim was on his morning walk.
By Tuesday night we had identified the suspects. When they came to know that we were zeroing in on them, they surrendered, said an investigation officer.
