Two TNSTC buses seized in lieu of compensation

TNSTC failed to pay compensation to accident victims following court orders
Krishnagiri: Two state transport corporation buses were confiscated as the TNSTC failed to pay compensation to accident victims following court orders. On June 26, 2010, Govindaraj, 42, a farmhand of Kamaraj Nagar, in Berigai, near Hosur of Krishnagiri district, died at the Naripuram bus stop while stepping out of a Tamil Nadu state transport corporation (TNSTC) bus heading towards Naripuram from Berigai. A police probe revealed that Govindaraj died because of the driver's negligence. His wife Kanniammal filed a case demanding compensation from TNSTC.
The Krishnagiri court, in its order, asked TNSTC to pay Rs11 lakh as compensation to the family. This did not happen even three years later. On November 27, 2013, Kanniammal filed a petition for execution of the court's directive to the TNSTC. As TNSTC had delayed payment of the compensation, the court ordered the confiscation of two TNSTC buses to recover the compensation.
On Tuesday, Krishnagiri court staff seized buses that came to the Oldpet bus stand in Krishnagiri. The buses are now in the court premises, giving another opportunity to TNSTC to recover its property after paying compensation.
