Telangana against repeal of current Motor Vehicles Act

Gov says it may to be misused in the absence of an effective control
New Delhi: Telangana State government on Tuesday opposed empowering private agencies in issues pertaining to driving licence, fitness certificate and registration of vehicles, saying it may to be misused in the absence of an effective control by the state government.
Telangana transport minister Mahender Reddy said that such measures would create problems for smaller states and suggested that existing state government machinery should be strengthened.
Speaking on Road and Safety Bill 2014, Mr Reddy opined that measures must be initiated to strengthen state mechanism for better control of vehicles, instead of repealing the existing Motor Vehicle Act 1988.
The minister also said that he has urged Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari to approve a separate road transport corporation for TS called as Telangana State Road Transport Corporation.
