Halloween pointers from pros

Youngsters who recently nailed their characters at the Comic Con, give a few tips for Halloween looks
Hyderabad: With Halloween just a couple of days away, to get the best “scary” foot forward, youngsters who got it right when they took part in the recent comic convention, give a few pointers.
Mahima Shrivastava, a graduate from Institute of Aeronautical Engineering, dressed up as three different characters for the convention: Emily, from the movie Corpse Bride, Alma from the game Fear, and Minnie Mouse. “Emily is a dead bride; she is wearing a wedding gown and her skin is blue,” says Mahima. “My costume was custom made; and I was wearing a corset top and gown, a veil, a wig, and skeleton stockings for the arms. This look took me two months.
“The other characters took far less time. When dressing up as Alma, I just needed a red dress and red paint for my legs and feet. For Minnie Mouse, the ears and the polka dot dress,” she says. “We have a Hyderabad cosplayers group, so we will be getting together for Halloween. Some might recycle their outfits, others might come up with new ideas,” she says.
Mahima suggests that if one is willing to spend time and extra effort, then they can also try out her sister, Garima’s costume ideas. Garima was dressed up as Aurora, from the game Child of Light, and Judy Nails from the game Guitar Hero.
Vaishnavi Kulkarni, a student from St Mary’s College, gives a simple way out. “Wednesday Addams, the character from The Addams Family, is easy to get right, if you don’t have time. I needed a black coat, a skull, and heavy make-up to look spooky,” she says, adding, “My friends, on the other hand, were dressed up as con man and vampires.”
If you want to try something even more simple, then take a leaf out of P. Sai Durga’s book. “I wanted to dress up as Morticia Addams, the spooky character from The Addams Family. But nothing was falling in place. So at the last moment I put on my best dress and opted to go for the ‘princess look’,” the student of Keshav Memorial Institute of Technology.
