Defamation case against Kaththi

Defamation case against the actor for referring to the 2G spectrum case
Madurai: Problems refuse to die down for Vijay-starrer Tamil film Kaththi, with an advocate filing a defamation case against the actor, director and producer for referring to the 2G spectrum case in the movie.
Advocate-petitioner R. Ramasubramanian filed the case in the judicial magistrate’s court here against actor Vijay, film director A.R. Murugadoss and producer of the movie, Lyca Productions. Quoting the dialogue in the film that “this country is of persons having looted crores and crores of rupees by keeping just 2G waves”, the petitioner contended that this
suggests that corruption occurred in the allocation of 2G spectrum.
He said cinema-makers and actors are not supposed to come to a conclusion whether corruption occurred in the allocation of 2G spectrum when the matter is being heard by a Delhi court.
The movie “has been produced with an ulterior motive”, he held. It portrayed the nation and its rulers in bad light. Such dialogues will affect the nation’s foreign direct investment, he added.
He said the action of people involved in the film was an offence under section 500 (defamation) of the IPC and, hence, action should be taken agai nst Vijay, Muruga doss and Lyca Productions.
The advocate, justifying his locus standi to file the case, told the court that he was an advocate and so a stakeholder of the judiciary. Following this, the court granted permission to file the petition and adjourned the matter to November 11.
Meanwhile, A stunt artiste who acted in the latest Tamil movie Kaththi was arrested in Thiruporur of Kancheepuram district on Monday night in connection with a robbery case.
The police arrested him after they probed the October 7, Rs 5.9 lakh daylight robbery by a three-member gang from a private firm employee after sprinkling chilli powder on his face in Than dalam. The police identified the stunt artiste as Manoj Kumar, 26, from Uthiramerur in Kancheepuram.
Apart from Kaththi, he has acted in more than 10 movies as a gangster. Others arrested were identified as Dhanasekaran and Kumar. The two told the police that Manoj was included in the gang because of his well-built body and the victims would be afraid to confront him.
The police said Jayabal, a cashier in a private company, was taking Rs 5.90 lakh from the bank by a four-wheeler to distribute salaries to employees when the gang robbed him after sprinkling chilli powder on his face.
The police initially nabbed Dhanasekaran. “It was he and his friend D. Kumar who planned the robbery. But they later included Manoj Kumar,” they said. Based on leads given by Dhanasekaran, they arrested Manoj. Manoj told the police that he had acted in the climax fight sequence of the Kaththi.
