Monsoon adequate so far: MET department

The metropolis, in particular, has recorded 379.9 mm of rainfall till Sunday
Chennai: October, the first month of the northeast monsoon season, is coming to an end. Going by the amount of rainfall received so far, Tamil Nadu is on course to receive its total expected quantum well before the monsoon withdraws in December, say Met officials.
“We are into the last week of October, but we have already got 20.5 cm of rainfall: that is nearly half our normal target of 44 cm for the season. It is a case of so far, so good,” said Mr S.R. Ramanan, director, area cyclone warning centre, Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai.
The metropolis, in particular, has recorded 379.9 mm of rainfall till Sunday; this is in excess of the normal 208.6 mm it is expected to receive until now.
In keeping with the continuing wet spell over the last few days, most parts of the state received plentiful rainfall during the 24-hour period ended 8.30 am on Sunday.
The rainfall has been attributed by Met officials to the persisting upper air cyclonic circulation near the Gulf of Mannar in southern TN. The weather forecast over the next 24 hours is rain in one or two places, with the interior districts of TN receiving moderate rainfall.
