Buildings still flout Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority regulations

The builders had land and built structures without going through official procedures

Hyderabad: Even though the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has stopped regularising hundreds of layouts within city limits as they are not in line with rules many buildings have come up.

Although there is no check on the construction of non-regularised structures, these buildings face the threat of demolition after notification. Officials say they are awaiting the government’s orders to reintroduce the scheme.

In Manikonda, almost 50 per cent of the buildings scheduled to be demolished do not have any sort of documentation and have no scope of being regularised under the Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS). Their construction itself is illegal as the builders failed to follow the basic minimum norms for permission from the panchayat.

An HMDA official said, “There are two kinds of structures illegal and irregular. The question of regularisation arises if there is building permission, but the structures have been built in violation of building norms.

Here, the buildings are illegal as there was no permission for them. The builders had land and built structures without going through official procedures,” said a top official. However, officials are waiting for the norms of regularisation through penalties and fines.
