French Open: Saina, Kashyap knocked out in quarterfinals

The Indian duo could not thwart their Chinese opponents

Paris: Commonwealth Games gold medallist Parupalli Kashyap's surge was halted by fifth-seeded Chinese shuttler Zhengming Wang in the French Open Super Series quarter-finals, here on Friday.

Kashyap, who had upset World No.4 Kenichi Tago of Japan, worked hard against Wang but finally went down 21-15 13-21 21-13 in one hour and five minutes.

Kashyap looked in good nick after he overcame China's Houwei Tian in a tough second-round game on Thursday but the Hyderabad star could not match up to Wang's play in the long battle.

India’s ace shuttler Saina Nehwal’s stay in the tournament was cut short after she lost to Wang Shixian of China 21-19, 19-21, 21-15 in the French Open quarterfinals on Friday.

The Hyderabad shuttler made a strong comeback after she lost the first game. However, the Chinese upped her game and outplayed Saina in the third game 21-15.
